WorkCover Western Australia's role is to minimise the social and economic impact onworkers with work-related injury, disease and achieve cost effectiveness for employers and the community.
This will be achieved through effective administration of the Workers’ Compensation and Injury Management Act 1981 (the Act), the provision of quality policy advice to government and excellent stakeholder relationships.

On 1 July 2005, responsibility for safety and health regulation of dangerous goods, mining, onshore petroleum and major hazard facilities was transferred to the Resources Safety Division of the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection (DOCEP).
Resources Safety comprises staff from the Department of Industry and Resources' former Safety and Health Division.
Safety and health-related information is now available on DOCEP’s website, including publications produced by the Safety and Health Division.
The Department of Industry and Resources (DoIR) was established on 3 February 2003 under the Public Sector Management Act 1994 (WA) by the redesignation of the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources and the transfer of functions from the abolished Department of Industry and Technology.
DoIR has the role of facilitating the State's economic development through services to industry that help ensure the State is an attractive place to live and do business. DoIR aims to provide services valued by its customers, industry and effectively and efficiently achieve the government's strategic outcomes for the Western Australian community.
DoIR's customer base is in the resources, manufacturing and service sectors. In addition, DoIR provides the administrative framework for collecting mineral and petroleum royalties.
