Medical Assessments

Pre-Employment and Pre-Placement Medicals

Effective risk based pre-placement medical assessments can be used to ascertain a job candidate’s medical and physical capacity to meet the demands of specific jobs. Pre-placement medical assessments are conducted by Medical Practitioners who assess:

  • Industrial and personal health history
  • Height, weight and physical ability
  • Visual acuity and colour vision
  • Urinalysis (for the detection of blood, glucose and protein)
  • Pulse rate and blood pressure
  • Respiratory, circulatory and digestive system
  • Spine and nervous system

The pre-placement medical examination provides employers with a baseline health assessment and, in cases where job demands are clearly specified, will assist with risk management and identify whether an employee is medically suitable for the role for which they are applying. Restrictions and recommendations are also documented to assist the employer meet their duty of care obligations.

  • Offshore and HUET medicals, including UKOOA and APPEA

Physical Capacity Screening and Musculoskeletal Assessments

Many workplace injuries are the result of a mismatch between the physical demands of the working task and the capacity of the worker. Prime offers a range of physical capacity assessments, conducted in conjunction with pre-employment screening, to reduce the risk of injury.  An experienced physiotherapist undertakes the assessment, examining the applicant’s ability to meet the physical demands of a particular job role and provide education and risk prevention strategies to the employer and employee.

To enhance the validity of the assessment it is important that the physiotherapist has reviewed the workplace, or a detailed job description has been provided by the employer. The physical examination may include:

  • Back flexibility, strength and posture
  • Upper limb function
  • Grip strength
  • Body composition
  • Lifting technique and capacity

Fitness Testing

Cardiovascular testing can be provided where physically demanding work is involved and a measure of the individual’s ‘fitness’ capacity is required. The testing includes:

  • Resting Heart Rate
  • Blood Pressure
  • Body Composition
  • Estimated VO2 maximum

Fitness for Work

Physical, functional and fitness assessments can be conducted to assist with management of return to work programs for work related and non work related injury and illness. Comprehensive evaluations will be conducted primarily by an occupational physician, supported by additional allied health staff where required.

Drug and Alcohol Screening

Prime conducts Drug and Alcohol Screening (DAS) in accordance with AS4308-95 and the Urine Drug Screening Collection Protocol.

The collection of all samples is managed to ensure prompt analysis and return of DAS results in the metropolitan area by the following day of business. In urgent cases same day service can be arranged.

On site drug screening services are also available to assist with routine and random testing in the workplace.
